Privacy Policy for 2048
Effective Date: August 14, 2026
2048 is a single-player sliding-tile puzzle published by Artivy. This Privacy Policy explains what
information is involved when you play it. There is no account, no sign-in, and no Artivy server: the game
itself is played entirely offline, and the only data that leaves your device is sent to Google's
advertising, analytics and crash-reporting services described below.
Playing in a browser
There are two ways to play 2048, and they do not collect the same things. Everything else on this page
describes the Android app from Google Play. The browser version at
artivy/2048/play.html is narrower:
- Your board, score, best score and top-10 table are kept in your browser's local storage
on the device you played on. They are never sent anywhere, and there is no way for us to read them.
- Google AdSense shows one banner advert in the browser
version, below the board and clear of it. It is a plain display advert: it is not rewarded, it
gives you nothing in the game, and there is no full-screen or between-levels advert anywhere in
the browser version. The advert loads once when the page opens and is never refreshed while you
play. Google may set cookies or use similar identifiers to serve it, under their own privacy
policy rather than ours. AdMob, described further down, is the Android app's advertising and is a
separate thing.
- There is no analytics and no crash reporting in the browser version.
- Clearing your browser's site data for this domain erases your saved progress. So does playing in a
private window, or in a browser that blocks storage — the game will still run, but nothing is kept.
- Progress does not follow you between devices or between the browser and the Android app. They are
separate saves.
1. Information We Collect
Artivy does not ask for, collect, or store any personally identifiable information about you. The data
involved is:
- Game Progress (stored on your device): Your best score, a top-10 table of your own
scores with the date each was achieved, the board of any run still in progress, and your chosen
language are saved in the app's private settings file. No name, nickname, or contact detail is
recorded, and this file is not sent to Artivy.
- Device Backup (handled by Android): That same settings file is included
in Android's app-backup and phone-to-phone transfer, so your scores and the run in progress can be
restored on a new device or after a reinstall. The copy is held in your Google account and handled by
Google under its own terms — Artivy neither performs the backup nor receives anything from it,
and cannot guarantee a restore.
- Advertising Data (collected by Google): 2048 shows a banner and occasional
full-screen (interstitial) ads through Google AdMob. To serve them, Google may collect device
information such as an advertising identifier, IP address, and app-interaction data. This collection is
governed by Google's privacy policy, not by Artivy.
- Analytics Data (collected by Google): 2048 uses Google Firebase Analytics. Unlike
purely aggregate usage counts, the events it sends include gameplay figures: the score of a
finished run, the highest tile reached, whether the run passed 2048, and the language you selected.
These are game numbers, not personal details — they are not tied to a name or an account you gave us.
- Crash Reports (collected by Google): 2048 uses Google Firebase Crashlytics to record
diagnostics if the app crashes — device model, operating system version, and the technical state at the
time — with the current score, highest tile and language attached, so a report shows how far the run had
progressed when it broke.
The app requests no device permissions beyond internet access and what Google's advertising, analytics and
crash-reporting SDKs require, including the advertising ID permission those SDKs add.
2. How Your Information Is Used
The information above is used only to:
- Save and restore your scores, your unfinished board, and your language choice.
- Display the advertisements that keep the game free.
- Understand how the game is played, so difficulty and balance can be improved.
- Diagnose and fix crashes.
Uninstalling the app removes the progress stored on your device. Clearing the app's data does the same
without removing the app.
3. Advertising Consent and Choices
Where required by law — for example in the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom — 2048 shows
Google's consent form on launch, before any ad is requested, using Google's User Messaging Platform. If you
were asked for consent, an Ad privacy options row appears in the in-game Settings panel
(the gear beside the language button) so you can review or change your choice at any time. Players outside
those regions are never shown the form and see no such row.
Your device's own advertising settings apply as well: on Android you can reset or delete the advertising ID,
and opt out of ad personalisation, under Settings → Google → Ads. Neither that nor
declining consent removes ads from the game — they become non-personalised.
4. Third-Party Services
2048 uses Google AdMob for advertising, Google Firebase Analytics for
gameplay analytics, and Google Firebase Crashlytics for crash diagnostics. Google may
collect and process data as described in Google's Privacy Policy (https://policies.google.com/privacy). We use no other
advertising network or analytics provider.
5. Children's Privacy
2048 is built for children as well as adults, and we do not knowingly collect
personally identifiable information from children.
The first time you open the Android app it asks what year you were born, before any
advert is requested. The answer is kept on your device, it is never sent to us, and it is asked only
once. It decides one thing:
- Players aged 13 or under are treated as children by Google's advertising SDK.
Their adverts are not personalised, and no advertising identifier is used to
profile them. Because a year of birth cannot tell whether a birthday has passed, anyone who might
still be twelve is given this treatment.
- Players over 13 see adverts as described earlier in this policy.
The question changes nothing about the game. Every tile, every score and every language setting is the same whichever answer you give.
Separately, and for every player regardless of age, advert content in 2048 is capped at
Google's “G” rating — suitable for general audiences, and sensitive
advert categories are excluded.
The browser version is a different case, and it is not aimed at children. It asks no age
question, shows one ordinary display advert served by Google AdSense under Google's own policies, and
reads nothing about who is playing. The age gate and the child treatment described above belong to the
Android app.
6. Your Rights
Because Artivy holds no data about you, there is no Artivy account to access, correct, or delete. The
gameplay data described above sits with Google under their own policy, and the copy on your device is
removed by uninstalling the app or clearing its data.
7. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes are published on this page and marked by a new
"Effective Date" above. Please review it periodically.
